NEGOTIATION SKILLS AND WORKING GROUP MEETINGS

Professional Trainer Development, EU Conferences and Debates and Institutional PR and Media Training

We continued developing the local pool of trainers and strengthening skills of civil servants in the second year of the project (2009/10). Topics and activities delivered in 2009 were Professional Trainer Development, two-day Institutional PR and Media Training and intensive EU Conferences and Debates training. In addition, we will continue to develop the local trainers who will attend training sessions in the above areas.

1. Professional Trainer Development 29 September – 1 October 2009

Trainers:

Mira Komlenović and Larisa Halilović, Senior Trainers, British Council, Sarajevo and Dženana Hodžić, Trainer, Directorate of European Integration

Impact:

12 local trainers successfully completed the course and were awarded with certificates

Key learning aim:

to refresh the knowledge related to training techniques relevant for working with the civil servants actively involved in international cooperation and Euro-Atlantic integrations
to prepare trainers to deliver training for EU Working Groups

Course content:

  1. Facilitation and Training Techniques; Working with Working Groups; Working of Working Groups
  2. Writing Emails and Letters; Writing Reports; Preparing training on writing
  3. Presentation Skills, Formal Communication, Preparing training on Presentation Skills and Formal Communication
2. Institutional PR and Media Training 12 – 13 October 2009

Trainers:

Andrew Manasseh, Felice Hawley, Alexandre Castanias of Pinnacle consulting company

Impact:

20 civil-servants directly involved in dealing with media in BiH institutions successfully completed the course and were awarded with certificates

Key learning aim:

To develop skills and techniques involved in working with PR and giving broadcast and print media interviews

Course content:

Understanding how journalist works
Preparing spokesperson: key messages
Media interview skills: briefing the spokesperson
Dealing with problems

3. EU Conferences and Debates Training 19 – 23 October 2009

Trainers:

Colm Downes and Neil Tibbets of British Council training centres in Brussels and Milan

Impact:

25 civil-servants successfully completed the course and were awarded with certificates

Key learning aim:

To be able to prepare and participate effectively in conferences and debates within the context of EU

Course content:

Overview of essential presentation skills: conference presentations
Effective writing skills: note taking
Listening techniques
English for EU conferences and debates, effective debating and diplomacy
Cultural awareness
Socializing skills: networking/talking to foreign delegates
