'The results by the end of the week were quite incredible. People had been through an emotional roller coaster. People had grown both in how they implemented movement and in their spectrum of movement. They were more aware and present in the moment. The group of dancers were truly committed and connected to the process. The whole experience was incredible, very profound.'

Fin Walker, (Walker Dance & Park Music), on his six-day workshop in Bogota, Colombia in August 2002 for contemporary dance professionals and students.

What work does the British Council do in this area?

We aim to connect with people around the world to encourage continual learning and sharing of skills. Many of our tours and performances also have a parallel programme of workshops for local audiences or schools, amateurs or professionals. For example the Royal Court International Residencies are very successful examples of work which we support. We have also sponsored a radio playwriting competition where twenty new playwrights worked for top directors on a week-long intensive residency.
