is the British Council’s guide to UK companies and artists currently creating interesting work available for international touring. As ever, we are keen that British artists not only find opportunities to tour finished pieces but also to conduct workshops, create educational programmes and collaborate with their peers. Most of the companies included here are extremely versatile performers and enthusiastic for engagement with international audiences and artists, so please contact them directly if you have ideas that you wish to develop.
includes brief statements of artistic policy, details of shows available for international touring, and contact information for selected UK artists and companies working across the disciplines of dance, drama, live art, and outdoor work. It is intended to be a quick and easy reference guide. You will find entries divided into four art form categories, and sub-divided according to the number of people in the touring company:
Dance
- Small-scale companies/artists (Less than 10 people on the road)
- Middle-scale companies (10-19 people on the road)
- Large-scale companies (Over 19 people on the road)
Drama
- Small-scale companies/artists (Less than 10 people on the road)
- Middle-scale companies (10-19 people on the road)
- Large-scale companies (Over 19 people on the road)
Live Art
- Live Art companies/artists
Outdoor Work
- Outdoor companies
These divisions are flexible. Please bear in mind, for example, that a production with fewer than 10 people on the road might sit happily in a larger venue or have quite complex freight or technical requirements. Everything is a matter of negotiation between artists and host.
All companies and artists included have expressed an interest in international touring and have sufficient administrative capacity to support the demands of touring. As ever, inclusion does not automatically mean that the British Council will be able to offer financial support for every international invitation secured.
While hopefully providing a usefully comprehensive directory, could not hope to provide an all-encompassing list of every interesting British company and artist. We are more than happy to provide information on others that may not be included here and you can contact us via email at arts@britishcouncil.org.
