CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
By Hanif Kureishi, a TARA Arts and National Theatre co-production. An Asian kid from Kent goes to college in London and teams up with a sympathetic group of anti-racists. But it’s 1989, the year of the fatwa, and as Shahid begins a hedonistic affair with his lecturer, his radical Muslim friends want to steer him away from the decadence of the West. (For ages 14+, 140 mins, 9 on stage, 16 on the road.)

A re-imagining of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet told through Pala Gaan, a Bangladeshi form of story-telling theatre. Rooted in the market squares of Bangladesh, this dynamic and engaging performance brings Shakespeare's poetry to life with a traditional blend of improvisation, live musicians and song. Performed in English and Bengali with authentic Pala Gaan instruments including the dhol (drum), kathi (percussion), harmonium and Indian bells. (For ages 14+, 80 mins, 6 on stage, 8 on the road.)

The story of the Diwali Festival. Using participatory theatre techniques, two performers draw children into the adventures of the legendary lovers, Sita and Rama, Hanuman the wondrous monkey king, and the terrifying ten-headed demon Ravana. They vividly bring to life the magical world of the Circular City and the demon island of Lanka. (For ages 3 to 6, 50 mins, 2 on stage, 3 on the road.)

FUTURE PRODUCTIONS
Alba Lorca’s play in a new bilingual translation by Gurpreet Bhatti (Bhezti, Birmingham Rep). Available 2011.
