ARTISTIC POLICY
Station House Opera is an internationally renowned performance company with a unique physical and visual style. Over the past 30 years the company has produced a distinctive body of pioneering work, from its monumental sculptural performances, such as , to the award-winning . Described as ‘visionary as it is stunningly visual’, Station House Opera works outside boundaries and artform boxes, from large-scale site-specific performances, to interactive installation, and touring performance work.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘This is postdramatic theatre meets Buster Keaton. Enjoy.’ Time Out

‘How inspired, how politically and socially astute this SHO performance is.’ The Glasgow Herald

‘Funny, spooky and slightly unsettling... A company that proves it can still be well ahead of the game.’ The Guardian

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
A small-scale performance. Laced with cruel humour, and exploring the separation of mind from body and character from performer, Mind Out continues Station House Opera’s fascination with shifting and complex ideas of identity in performance. Can have accompanying workshops. (75 mins approx, 5 on stage, 6 on the road, contains some strong language.)

An award-winning production, which has been touring worldwide for 10 years and is recreated specifically for each venue. Projected life-size, the performers’ video images compete with their live counterparts for attention and authenticity. Multiple versions of the same characters regard each other with conflicting emotions. (75 mins, 2 on stage, 4 on the road, contains some nudity, 7 day get-in for filming, editing and rehearsing in each space.)

A large-scale site-specific performance using thousands of breeze blocks linking neighbourhoods and communities. First presented in London in July 2009 as part of Create Festival. One of the company’s large-scale sculptural projects, can be re-created to commission for different cities, specific sites and contexts.

FUTURE PRODUCTIONS
(in development) A variable scale site-specific production that integrates a life-sized projection of action from a private house with events at the performance venue. The piece explores the links between psychology and behaviour by running the action backwards – asking questions about time and the consequences of actions – and, by expanding the game into the surrounding environment, immerses the audience into a transformed world.

WRAP-AROUND
Post-show talks and Q&A sessions for general audiences. Talks and workshops (from half-day to week-long) for artists, performers and performing/visual arts students. Lose Your Mind workshops touring with Mind Out.
