ARTISTIC POLICY
Inspector Sands and Stamping Ground Theatre make vivid and compelling theatre for national and international touring. We seek to reach a diverse audience, creating strong theatrical worlds where the interplay of physical performance, text, light, music, and sound is integral to each production. The live relationship between audience and performers is at the heart of our work. We have a particular interest in the ways that global events and social trends inform everyday relationships and human interaction.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘The terrific thing about this show is that it works on many levels and always underpins the comedy with real emotion… brilliant, slippery… deliciously sharp and witty.’ The Guardian

‘Beautifully observed… I laughed until I cried.’ The Guardian ()

‘One of the gems of the London International Mime Festival... Hysteria is a rib and mind-tickling delight.’ The Times

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
A couple teetering on the brink of marriage, a jaded therapist and an awkwardly naive teenage girl star in an everyday thriller crying out for an explosive climax. Will it be a masked gunman on the rampage? A terrifying knife attack? A dangerously illicit tryst? Or a fairly ordinary summer which threatens to be swelteringly hot but never quite caps pleasantly warm? continues the company’s interest in the 21st century mindset, offering a mini-epic of longing, envy, disappointment and psychobabble that examines our obsession with feeling happy at any cost.

A pressure-cooker tragi-comedy of dinner dates, solitude and the age of anxiety. Winner Total Theatre Award for ‘integration of space, sound, light and physical performance’. (60 mins, 3 on stage, 5 on the road.)

Memory, pride and unfulfilled dreams: football becomes a metaphor for human experience, through the eyes of four men in a deserted pub. Black humour, absurd wordplay and football-based choreography. (60 mins, 5 on the road.)

FUTURE PRODUCTION
Currently developing a work-in-progress for the Edinburgh International Festival 2010 as recipients of the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe Award. The prize commissions companies who usually make work for the Fringe to develop work for the International Festival.

WRAP-AROUND
The company runs workshops for performers from a wide range of backgrounds and has a strong interest in meeting audiences/artists in host countries through this kind of activity. The emphasis is on improvisation, a physical approach to character and the creation of original material, often using short stories or images as a springboard. There is also a workshop available based on the interaction of performers with lights and sound. The company is available for talks, post-show discussions, workshops and longer residencies.
