ARTISTIC POLICY
Spymonkey makes physical, comedic theatre that engages, challenges and entertains audiences, overflowing with brilliant characters, outrageous naughtiness and a delightful lack of respect for theatrical convention. An international following has been built on its exuberant mix of superior physical skills, spirited dialogue and brilliant visual impact. Combining the formality of British traditional theatre with a European approach to clowning and stage anarchy, its shows are full-on, fast-paced and hilarious.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Gloriously anarchic, constantly entertaining... Inspired comic misrule... will give you a whale of a time.’ The Times (Spymonkey’s )

‘Must be the funniest show on any stage in Britain at the moment.’ Birmingham Post (Spymonkey’s )

‘A beautifully crafted melodrama packed with physical humour, silliness and exquisite performances from start to finish.’ Time Out ()

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Spymonkey’s A glorious mis-telling of Melville’s classic. Will Ahab’s thirst for revenge be unhinged by the well-meaning but staggeringly inept attentions of his crew? (90 mins with an interval, 4 on stage, 6 on the road.)

A deliciously demented take on the pulp gothic novella. Laura du arrives in darkest Northumberlandshirehampton to take up her position as confidential secretary to the reclusive Forbes Murdston. Contains non-sexual nudity. (80 mins, optional interval, 4 on stage, 6 on the road.)

Forbes Murdston, the great tragedian, presents a moving tribute to his dear, departed love, aided by an enthusiastic (but totally incompetent) troupe of actors. (75 mins, no interval, 4 on stage, 5 on the road.)

WRAP-AROUND
‘Your Funny’ Workshops – intended for students and professionals in clown and physical comedy, age 18+. Learning to develop and hone comedic skills, discovering how to make an audience belly laugh, being part of a great group dynamic, daring to stand before an audience, unafraid to make mistakes and find pleasure in being wonderfully silly.

Post-show discussions on our creative process and our position within a broader theatrical and artistic context.
