ARTISTIC POLICY
Action Hero makes live art and performance that seeks to use audiences as collaborators and conspirators. They are interested in creating work that links audiences together and unifies them as part of the live event, building a temporary community. Their process has been defined by necessity: a raw aesthetic has become central to their work. While exploring the epic, they create performance that is intimate, distinctive and invigorating.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘A sharp, witty and poignant deconstruction of the western… a truly epic piece of theatre… this is a beautiful pipe dream of a show – one that places the audience at its heart.’ The Guardian ()

‘Resolutely off-kilter but entirely accessible… brilliant… an immensely clever, totally deadpan parallel universe comprised entirely of deconstructed clichés.’ Metro ()

‘An ecstatic atmosphere.’ Metro ()

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Scenes from an imaginary western are enacted, in collaboration with the audience, in a celebration of generic heroes, cheap whores and the failure of the all-American idol. A performance for a bar or similar public space. (50 mins, 2 on the road).

On a DIY runway with a standing audience, the performance is an intimate yet epic exploration of macho daredevilry, exploring the nature of risk and the complicity of the audience in increasingly violent acts in the name of entertainment. (1 hour, 2 on the road.)

WRAP-AROUND
Workshops for all ages and levels from 16 years old, pre- and post-performance discussions for both audiences and professionals, lecture demonstrations for professional artists and academics.
