ARTISTIC POLICY
1927 specialises in combining storytelling, live performance and music with animation and film to create original theatre. 1927 has mastered a delicate marriage of live music, animation, film, song and technology as a means of exploring innovative ways of telling stories. 1927 endeavours to reinvent old idioms: silent film, music hall song, fairytales and cabaret, to tell tales that are concerned with contemporary issues for a modern audience.
REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘A show that oozes technical accomplishment, and there's no doubt, with a debut as slick as this, that these young artists have a bright future ahead of them.’ The Age, Melbourne
‘An ingenious, macabre little charmer.’ The New York Times
‘A frighteningly gifted new British theatre company.’ The Times
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
A dark and strangely beautiful journey through enchanting, skewed and often sinister landscapes. 1927’s multiple award-winning show combines film and animation, story-telling, live music and performance. A delicately deadly delight! (60 minutes, no interval, 4 on the road.)
FUTURE PRODUCTIONS
Set in a tenement block in a dystopian animated city, where a beast is on the loose... this is a world ruled by fear where a man’s shadow can grow a tail and the snout of a wolf, where telephones grow spidery legs and run away, and where the beast is always present... The story unfolds within a series of mysterious scenes, where Betty Boop meets B movie with a hint of film noir. Performed in 1927’s unique style, merging animation live actors and music. (Running time tbc, 4–5 on the road.)
WRAP-AROUND
Tailor-made workshops (story-telling, devising, stylistic performance, film and animation, merging film and performance), post-performance discussions, residencies, masterclasses and talks.
