During the summer of 2011, the British Council teamed up with the Roundhouse to offer 14 to 21 year-old music producers, bands and solo artists a unique opportunity to collaborate with young musicians in New Zealand.
The idea was to create an EP of new creative commons music, recorded between London and New Zealand, over each day and night using studios at the Roundhouse and the Red Bull Auckland Studio, and utilising online tools such as Soundcloud, Inbada and Bandcamp. The project emphasizes tools that freely available on the internet, and the spirit of sharing and creative collaboration.
In addition to writing and recording new music, the participants also captured 'found sound' from around the local environment, in Camden and in the different spaces within the Roundhouse Studio where they were recording. The aim was to create new compositions that were inspired by their immediate environments, both in London and Auckland.
You can now download the resulting seven track album from the Other Side of the World sessions via Bandcamp.
You can follow the participant's progress during the project via the People in your Neighbourhood blog

In addition to the young musicians and artists involved in the project, we welcomed the multi-Grammy winning mixer 'Bassy' Bob Brockmann in to the studio as guest executive producer for a couple of sessions.
This project was a collaboration between the Roundhouse, the British Council, People in Your Neighbourhood and the Red Bull Academy in Auckland
