Conferences and Seminars

We run biennial conferences and seminars here in the UK, like Cambridge Seminar of Contemporary Literature. Our overseas conferences include the Walberberg Seminar of contemporary literature, which is held in January each year.

Past and recurring conferences and seminars:

Cambridge Seminar: 5 – 13 July 2007
The British Council's Cambridge Seminar on Contemporary British Literature is a bi-annual event with participants from over over 40 countries meeting some of the best-known writers in the UK and taking part in debates ranging over many literary and cultural issues.

Oxford Conference: 30 March – 5 April 2007
An annual conference for teachers of literature. More details of the Oxford conference including information on past conference events can be found here. Our Oxford pages also include participants' papers.

Walberberg Seminar of Contemporary Literature 2008
This year's seminar, the 23rd, ran from 24  – 27 January 2008 and was held at Akademie Schmockwitz, Berlin on the theme ‘Rooted Realities and Maps of Migration’. Patricia Duncker will Chair and writers represented will be: Alice Oswald, Andrew Cowan, Laila Aboulela, E A Markham and Stephen Knight.

The seminar was attended by approximately 45 participants from across Europe, including a broad mix of academic critics, professors of English (with many from the younger generation), publishers, journalists and translators.

The Walberberg Seminar is the largest and longest running annual literature seminar in Germany. Details of the seminar and previous years can be found using the links below:
