ACD Planning and Management
The following guidelines for setting up and managing ACD projects are principally geared towards our British Council arts and governance colleagues in overseas offices. However they should also prove useful to external organisations looking to run their own ACD programmes, as well as to artists and others who are interested in how the British Council develops its projects.
Included in the guidelines are the following sections:
- Background and in-country research
- What kind of ACD intervention?
- Project Research
- Identifying suitable local and UK partners
- Working with local and UK partners
- Strategies for avoiding or dealing with potential risks
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Maximising impact and sustainability
- Drawing up stakeholder agreements
- Funding and budgeting
- Information Resources

Timeline + Budget
Once you have decided on an appropriate project and completed some background research, it would be helpful to make out a work plan. An example workplan is the available for download below.
Points to note about the timeline + budget work plan:
- The time line is based on a fairly in-depth participatory project where the British Council is the lead partner.
- It should not be seen as prescriptive as timings and project stages will vary according to the nature and scale of the project proposed.
- This plan cannot detail the actual project activities and only shows the major milestones.
