Environment concerns us all

As one of the more than 100 British Council offices in the world, we in Armenia recognize that our activities affect the environment and are committed to minimizing our impact by improving our environmental performance in line with the British Council’s Environmental Strategy.

Our current focus is to:

increase our electricity and water efficiency and manage the carbon footprint of our own activities;
minimise the generation of waste and implement re-use or recycling initiatives where possible;
use our procurement influence to deliver more sustainable outcomes through working with suppliers and contractors;
monitor and continually improve the environmental impact of our business travel as an office of a global organisation, and explore innovative mechanisms to deliver this international work effectively;
use our skills and strengths as an office of a global organisation to promote environmentally friendly initiatives.

To achieve environmental improvement in our branch we:

review the environmental impacts of our activities;
ensure compliance with relevant Armenian legislation;
set targets for improving our environmental performance for activities with bad environmental impact;
ensure that all staff is informed about, understands and implements our policy;
communicate our progress in reducing our environmental impact to internal and external stakeholders;
review this Policy periodically to take account of changes in our organisation’s targets, in the Armenian environmental legislation, or other internal and external factors.
