CLIMATE CHAMPION

About Natalia

Natalia is 32 years old and lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is Founder and Director of Ecoeducarte, an environmental organization. Natalia has a BA in Sociology (University of Buenos Aires) and a MA in Design and Implementation of Social Programmes and Policies (Latin-American Faculty of Social Science).

About her project

Ecoeducarte is an NGO whose mission is to provide training programmes on Climate Change. It is made up of three linked programmes: Eco-schools, Eco-business and Eco-communities.

Through these programmes, they intend to raise awareness on the use and waste of natural resources in everyday life and the best ways to preserve them to avoid the final consequence: Global Warming.

The three programmes promote actions which tend to change habits and build new environmental practices in relation to the intelligent use of natural resources on both an individual and institutional level.

Eco-schools programme is designed to teachers and head-teachers and involves students of all levels, kindergarten, primary and secondary levels. Through audits carried out by students of higher levels, work is done during the year in the search for simple options and tools to apply within the school: from the separation of waste and recycling to the saving of water and electric energy.

Eco-business programme offers training based on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design System for both existing buildings and those in construction.

Eco-community programme is the community work area where products which are normally thrown away become useful products and are later donated to schools, hospitals etc.

What is the biggest Challenger that Natalia faces?

My greatest challenge is to modify our habits and customs to help create a sustainable environmental culture through which natural resources can be recognized as a consequence of awareness of their daily consumption.

What can Natalia do to make a difference?

She believes that every action however small, has a positive or negative effect on the atmosphere around us; it is the sum of all these actions what makes a difference, the smallest actions which count the most, the most basic ones such as turning off the tap while we're brushing our teeth, separating waste at its origin and turning off electronic appliances when not in use.
