Welcome to British Council Mauritius. Although the nature of our work may have changed since we first established a presence in Mauritius in 1950, we remain committed to providing Mauritians with learning opportunities and a connection to the UK. Our work in Mauritius focuses on English and Education.

English

Learn English with us: whatever your level of English, we can help you develop your English language skills. At our Teaching Centre in Rose Hill, we offer a wide variety of courses for children, adults and professionals. We also have courses for people who are preparing to take the IELTS  test. Call us now to book a placement test.
English online: for practical tips on improving your English language skills, have a look at our free online resources. There are dedicated sections for kids, adults and professionals. Children can have fun with games, songs and activities – and learn English too.

Teaching English: we work closely with the Ministry of Education and the Mauritius Institute of Education to support the professional development of English teachers through workshops and other training events. Our TeachingEnglish website provides a wealth of practical resources for teachers to use in the classroom. Register now to receive regular updates.

Are you interested in becoming an English Language teacher? The British Council in Mauritius runs CELTA teacher training courses in July and November. This is a passport to teaching English anywhere in the world. Call us now to book an interview.

English Exams: learners of English can gain an internationally recognised qualification with us. If you are planning to study, live or work abroad, an IELTS exam will open doors. Primary school pupils can test their level of English by taking a Cambridge Young Learner exam. Businesses can test the language skills when recruiting with a BULATS test.
