The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for education and cultural relations. We connect people in Ghana with people in the UK and beyond.

British Council has been in operation in Ghana since 1943 and has built a long–standing relationship with the people of Ghana.

The strategic focus of our work is creating and enhancing learning opportunities and building access and understanding between Africa and the global community.

Below is the list of our services and programmes:

Exams

We are an approved centre for British professional and academic examinations. We register and invigilate CIPS, University of Cambridge International Examination and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), the test needed for entrance to many British and foreign universities. Education & Society

Connecting Classrooms: our three-way partnership programme that promotes intercultural dialogue between schools in Sub-Saharan Africa and the UK.
GSP: the Global School Partnerships programme links teachers and students in over 150 Ghanaian schools with their counterparts in the UK.
The Challenge: an exciting reality TV series designed to give bright, ambitious Ghanaian students with a first degree the opportunity to win postgraduate scholarships at leading universities in the United Kingdom.
FCO Chevening Scholarship: a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK.
DelPHE: the Development Partnerships in Higher Education provides funding for partnerships between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) working on collaborative activities linked to development goals.
AKTP: African Knowledge Transfer Partnerships link private sector organisations and higher education or research institutions in Sub Saharan Africa and the UK.
Management training: our professional development training programme aims to create opportunities in training, networking and access to information for young managers and business leaders in Ghana.
Fast Track: a programme developed by the British Council’s Professional Development Centre to provide young professionals, students and recent graduates with an alternative study model to develop personally and professionally.
Management Forum: a group of professionals who share expertise using networking events with the aim to improve management competencies in Ghana.

Arts

Creative Enterprise: Creative Lives is focussed on the knowledge economy and contributing to intercultural understanding. It provides a platform for new creative talent to debate issues around social exclusion and freedom of expression.

Facilities

Executive suites: These suites are fully air-conditioned and very comfortable. They are ideal for private corporate activities as well as lectures, seminars and workshops.
Auditorium: With a maximum seating capacity of 270, the octagon shaped auditorium can be easily adapted to host lectures, seminars, theatre, music and dance events. It is centrally air-conditioned and has its own stage lights and public address system and screens.
Seminar Room: Our seminar room is fully air-conditioned and is designed for smaller meetings of up to 50 persons if seated in a theatre style format.
Project Room: With a seating capacity of 30 maximum, our project room is ideal for meetings, presentations, roundtable discussions etc. This room also serves as a holding area for speakers and special guests.
Video-conference: We boast of the first public access video-conferencing suite, with air conditioning, sound proofing and a plasma screen. The suite can seat up to 30 persons. The actual video conference attracts a separate fee.
Restaurant: our in-house restaurant is the place to be at lunch time. Professionals meet here for networking and to enjoy the local and continental buffet.
