A group of over 200 disabled and able-bodied young people came together in Beijing to take part in the International Youth Forum. Advocates from China and Hong Kong made up the majority of the group, which also included 80 representatives from the UK, USA, Bulgaria, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

Marie Nichols, one of the Welsh Young Advocates said: 'The YAP programme really brings home the message that it is society that creates disability, and that we, as individuals are in a position to change that.'
The Forum's aim is for the Young Advocates to champion the Paralympic ideals of inspiration, determination, participation and equality, in their communities. The programme of activities included workshops, performances and discussions led by Young Advocates. As well as getting down to hard work there was plenty of fun, demonstrated at the Chinese and UK-themed parties.
Jo Dean, from the Northern Ballet Theatre, which ran one of the workshops, said: 'It has been a fantastic opportunity to come here and work with these young people promoting creative dance for all abilities. They've worked so hard and so well together, overcoming all communication and movement difficulties.
'The work they have produced is amazing. You can really see how they have developed during the Forum. We hope to build on this inspiring work with the Young Advocates Programme and the British Council.'
The event concluded with a YAP grand showcase featuring workshop performances, a closing ceremony and a VIP reception at the British Embassy.
