ChongQing Examinations Finance Officer

Beijing Office: Assistant Events Manager

The British Council is seeking qualified and enthusiastic candidates with excellent proficiency in English (above BULATS Level 3 or IELTS 6) and strong events management skills and communication skills to fill the 11 months fixed-term post of Assistant Events Manager based in Beijing.  The successful candidate will join an established Marketing and Communication team and contribute to events management in North and Central China.

The key duties of this post include:

  • To deliver high quality events and provide professional supporting to sector teams on logistic arrangements for events; liaising with sector teams and external suppliers, contribution of creative ideas.
  • To handle budget issues for events as delegated by commissioners or Events Manager. All financial transactions are in accordance with British Council Financial procedures.
  • To provide administrative support to Events Team.

Wales Government Chongqing Office : Higher Education Project Officer

REPORTING TO:Manager of the China-Wales HE Training Consortium

LINE MANAGEMENT:Head of the Welsh Government Office in Chongqing

SALARY:Starting salary will be based on grade and according   to experience and qualifications.

JOB DESCRIPTION:-

Main Purpose of Post

  • Actively seek out commercial opportunities in Chongqing or other areas of China within a business, governmental or educational context on behalf of  members of the Consortium of ten Welsh universities
  • Initiate and support the development of commercial training partnerships and activities between the Consortium of Welsh universities and institutions/organisations in China
  • Provide regular updates to the consortium  of Welsh universities relating to labour market intelligence in China as well as any relevant educational, social and economic issues/concerns

Main Duties

  • Develop a reliable network of contacts in the education, government and business community in Chongqing and more widely in China in order to notify Welsh universities, at the earliest opportunity, of potential cultural, educational and commercial opportunities (with a focus on the latter)
  • Support Welsh universities as to the most effective way to make progress with these  opportunities by providing a detailed context to the leads
  • Keep up to date with government thinking and policy in relation to education, economic and  social development in Chongqing and China and report on developments to the Manager of the Wales-China Higher Education Training Consortium
  • Keep up to date with Higher Education policy, educational, social and economic developments in Wales  
  • Report all opportunities for  income generation within a business or an educational context in Chongqing/China to the Manager of the Wales-China Higher Education Training Consortium
  • Take on any other reasonable duties which from time to time may arise.

Key Relationships

The post holder will be expected to:

  • Form an effective and cooperative working relationship with both the British Council and UK Trade & Investment in Chongqing
  • Form effective and co-operative working relationships with educational institutions and commissions in Chongqing and Wales, commercial organisations in Chongqing and  Welsh Government representatives in both countries
  • Report on progress against agreed targets to the Manager of the Wales-China Higher Education Training Consortium
  • Report to the Head of the Welsh Government office in Chongqing in relation to pay and conditions of employment
  • Liaise with relevant organisations in China in relation to commercial opportunities.

PERSONAL QUALITIES REQUIRED:

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Integrity and honesty;

  • Proven ability to make effective professional contacts;
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of the Wales Government Office team;

We are looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join our team of IELTS examiners in mainland China.

You will need:

An undergraduate degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be an equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

A TEFL/TESOL qualification from a recognised institution (at minimum certificate level) or EFL / ESOL related studies completed as part of an undergraduate / post graduate award course from a recognised institution (minimum certificate level equivalent) or A degree in Education (if supported by an undergraduate degree which includes studies focused on English language at point 1 above) .

A minimum of three years full-time relevant teaching experience (or equivalent part time) is required*. If an applicant’s EFL / ESOL qualification is at certificate level (or equivalent), one of the three years full-time teaching experience must be post EFL / ESOL certificate qualification. If the EFL / ESOL qualification is at Diploma level or higher, teaching experience post EFL / ESOL qualification is not required.

The required professional attributes and interpersonal skills.

*Note: ‘Full-time teaching’ is classified as a minimum of 14 hours of face-to-face teaching per week
