This course is designed as an initial training course for teachers with little or no previous teaching experience.
It is a very practical course leading to an internationally recognised qualification in English language teaching to adults.
About 7,000 candidates currently gain the certificate each year at 150 centres in 35 countries worldwide.
It is the most widely recognised training certificate for English language teachers in the world.
Employers welcome the course emphasis on actual classroom practice, intensive supervision and the external moderation that guarantee international standards.
You are eligible for a CELTA course if you
speak English at native speaker standard
are at least 20 years old
have reached university matriculation standard.
It is not necessary to have previous teaching experience or be able to speak a foreign language, though both of these would be an advantage.
What does the CELTA at the British Council consist of?
The course lasts for four weeks and is held from Monday to Friday.
The input is given in the form of workshops designed to be as "hands on" and practical as possible.
The 120-hour-course includes the following: input sessions and teaching practice with extensive feedback, assignment preparation, and observation of experienced teachers and their peers.
Our next CELTA course will be held from 18 June – 13 July 2012 at the British Council Teaching Centre in Casablanca.
Please note that the number of participants on the Cambridge ESOL CELTA course is limited. To apply, please download and fill in this application form (word document 60.5 KB). Hard copies of the application form can also be obtained by coming in to our centres in Casablanca or Rabat – please call before coming in.
