ARTISTIC POLICY
Scottish Ballet produces and tours a wide range of high quality dance with strong classical technique at the root of all of its work. The company presents a broad repertoire, from new versions of the classics (eg Romeo & Juliet, Sleeping Beauty), through to seminal works from 20th century modern ballet repertoire (eg George Balanchine, Frederick Ashton), and extending into signature pieces by living choreographers (eg William Forsythe, Trisha Brown) and new commissions (eg Krzysztof Pastor, Stephen Petronio, Richard Alston).

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Romeo & Juliet New production set in 20th century Italy by Krzysztof Pastor, with designs by Tatyana van Walsum and lighting by Bert Dalhuysen. Music by Prokofiev. (120 mins including a 20-minute interval, 36 on stage, total on road, including artistic/ballet staff, music staff, admin, 54 plus orchestra of 59.)

Carmen New one-act ballet by Richard Alston retells the famous story of a hot blooded gypsy whose wild spirit lures a young officer into an obsessive love when she spurns him for the glamour of a handsome toreador with tragic results. Music by Georges Bizet, orchestrated by Rodion Shchedrin. (45 mins, 20 on stage,total on road including artistic/ballet staff, music staff, admin: 54, plus orchestra of 39.)

(Note: this piece can stand alone as part of a curated mixed programme or be partnered with other one-act pieces in current repertoire.)

Pennies from Heaven New one-act ballet by Ashley Page, inspired by the songs from the 1930s. Set and costumes by Antony McDonald and lighting by Peter Mumford. Recorded music. (50 mins, 18 on stage, 33 on the road, can stand alone as part of a curated mixed programme or be partnered with other one-act pieces in current repertoire.)

Workwithinwork By William Forsythe. Performed to the beautiful slow-building arch of Luciano Berio’s Duetti for two violins, the choreography embraces the performance space, beginning with graceful, winding movements which branch out in ever-increasing complexity. Recorded music. (30 mins, 18 on stage, 33 on the road,can stand alone as part of a curated mixed programme or be partnered with other one-act pieces in current repertoire.)

FUTURE PRODUCTIONS
New work – new one-act ballet by Val Caniparoli – premiering in autumn 2010

Alice in Wonderland New full-length production by Ashley Page, with designs by Antony McDonald and lighting by Peter Mumford. New score by Robert Moran. Premiering in Spring 2011. (120 mins including a 20 min interval, cast: 36, crew: 12. Total on road including artistic/ballet staff, music staff, admin: 55, plus orchestra of 47.)

FUTURE PRODUCTIONS: Various short works to complete mixed bills – details available on request.

WRAP-AROUND
We provide comprehensive education and interpretation programmes with all our productions. The range of activity we offer includes: pre-show/post-show talks (eg introduction to ballet, programme notes with the artistic director, music insight, costume and design); lecture demonstrations and theatre insight events (ranging from watching company class to deconstructing a ballet); participatory workshops, residencies and masterclasses; resource packs and online education resources.

Activities can be tailored for all ages and levels of experience – from novices to professionals. Some activities take place in the theatre, but others can be offered in a range of local venues. We also offer Touch Tours and audio description for people with visual impairments.
