ARTISTIC POLICY
Russell Maliphant’s work is characterised by a unique approach to flow and energy and a concern with the relationship between movement, light and music. Drawing on his experience and practice of the disciplines of capoeira, tai chi, yoga and contact improvisation, his language is one of form and dynamics; elegant, articulate and resonant. He is committed to assimilating the diverse ability and understanding embodied by experienced individuals into his work, resulting in productions of technical excellence and high production values.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘AfterLight by Russell Maliphant… poignantly captures the remote, faun-like aura of Nijinsky, evoking a mesmerising individual not quite of this world. A miniature masterpiece.’ Mark Monahan, The Telegraph

‘With AfterLight, so piercing in its evocation of loss, Maliphant moves into a new register. We've seen a host of Diaghilev-inspired pieces over the last year; this, for me, is the one that speaks most clearly of the wonder and the irrecoverability of those long-gone years.’ Luke Jennings, The Observer

‘Obsessive, revealing, true to Maliphant’s manner and to Nijinsky’s imagery.’ **** Clement Crisp, Financial Times

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
AfterLight Using Vaslav Nijinksy's geometric drawings and paintings as a starting point, Russell Maliphant has created a brand new work for the Maliphant Company. Lighting and sound design is from regular Maliphant collaborators Michael Hulls and Andy Cowton. (40 mins tbc, 4 dancers.)

Choice In this first revival of Choice (2003), the Catalonian company CobosMika, headed by former Maliphant company members Olga Cobos and Peter Mika, will guest for this collaboration between the two companies. (30 mins, 5 dancers.)

The above productions will tour as a double bill. (90 mins with one 20 min interval, 15 on the road.)

WRAP-AROUND
Individual one-off workshops and longer residencies can be conducted from a minimum of two hours to two weeks. In general, these workshops integrate principles and practices from a variety of body-orientated techniques (including yoga, release technique, contact improvisation and the martial arts) to explore the choreographic qualities inherent in Maliphant’s creation of work.
