ARTISTIC POLICY
Richard Alston Dance Company (RADC) presents skilled dancers in lyrical and speedy movement – steps flowing in complex and close dialogue with exhilarating music. This is dance that gives straightforward pleasure, using a broad range of musical inspiration, both classical and contemporary, to create a constant interplay between musical impulse and choreographic invention.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Fast paced and utterly exhilarating.’ Sunday Times (Overdrive)

‘A lovely portrait of lovers’ intimacy which captures the turbulent privacy of the world of Vermeer paintings.’ Daily Telegraph (Light Flooding Into Darkened Rooms)

‘Sent me home insanely happy.’ New York Times (Shuffle It Right)

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Overdrive Takes up the pulsating rhythm of Terry Riley’s Keyboard Studies and runs with it to the wire – shifting, changing direction, curving over and under but never pausing for breath.

Light Flooding into Darkened Rooms Intimate and exquisitely beautiful, is accompanied by lute music by Baroque master Denis Gaultier and contemporary music for mandolin by Jo Kondo.

Shuffle it Right A good humoured company piece syncopating to the jazzy songs of Hoagy Carmichael, who himself sings, whistles and plays piano on these 1940s recordings.

Blow Over Races along to the fierce beats of Philip Glass’s Songs From Liquid Days. The music is urgently driven and the dancers have to fly to keep up, in great leaping arcs of energy.

Movements from Petrushka An iconic work from 1994, reworks images from the ballet Petrushka and was given a new production in 2009 to mark the centenary of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes.
