ARTISTIC POLICY
New Art Club creates original works of dance-based art that are intelligent, beautiful, funny and engaging, and that have a positive and memorable affect upon audiences. The company questions preconceptions of dance performance and presentation, and its use of movement, text, comedy, costume and props has evolved into a unique theatre style that is as immediate and direct in its appeal, as it is fascinating. A mixture of comedy, live art and dance – serious and silly in equal measure.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Impossible not to succumb to the engaging rhythm of the performance and its refreshingly comic inventiveness.’ The Spectator (The Visible Men)

‘An elegant and nimble piece of physical comedy deftly performed with polished skill.’ Chortle, the UK Comedy Guide (Extra Ordinary World)

‘Playful, thoughtful and full of diverting dance numbers that showcase the duo’s choreographic talent. Surreal, nostalgic fun.’ Three Weeks (This is Now)

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
This is Now Inspired by the very first Now That’s What I Call Music LP which was released in 1983, Britain’s funniest dancers deconstruct this classic album of fabulous 80s tunes to inspire new moves that shed their own twisted light on the past, the future and now.

New Art Club’s Extra Ordinary World A fast, fresh and funny show about the search for a brand new dance craze. (60 mins, 4 on the road.)

The Visible People A unique, expanded, participatory version of The Visible Men into which a cast of local dancers is integrated into the company, to create world in which the familiar laws of physics are unreliable, where things and people appear, disappear and re-appear somewhere else. A marriage of dancing and some talking, simple gags and subtle surprises.

WRAP-AROUND
New Art Club believes that everyone that wants to can dance, choreograph and enjoy and benefit from dance as an artform. They believe that choreography is an easy, accessible artistic discipline that can be practised by all. With this in mind, as part of their touring, a range of education and community activities are available for booking with the company.

With an inclusive and demystifying approach to skills-based sessions, their work aims to have a memorable and important effect on the creative and physical development of people as artists. Practical workshops can be tailored to suit all ages from 8–16 years, as well as dance professionals, and are a fun and informative mix of dance technique and company repertoire.

Workshops are usually two to three hours in length (maximum group size 30), and are available to all venues. Post-show discussions with the artists are also available. A separate information sheet on education work is available from the company.
