ARTISTIC POLICY
Michael Pinchbeck is a writer, live artist and performance-maker based in Nottingham. His work is an exit strategy from the everyday. He operates autobiographically by using self and site-as-source to illustrate loss and explore absence and presence. He aims to challenge the boundaries of text, performance and installation in reliving memories and revisiting real-life events. He has presented live work in a variety of contexts at biennales, galleries, festivals and theatres across the UK and mainland Europe.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Truly brilliant.’ **** The Scotsman (The Post Show Party Show)

‘This innovative show is performed in the style of a Brechtian-inspired Morecambe and Wise double act.’ ***** Edinburgh Guide (The Post Show Party Show)

‘This is a teasing, gently witty and entertaining piece about the shifting nature of reality.’ *** The Guardian (The Post Show Party Show)

WRAP-AROUND
Michael Pinchbeck lectures in performance at the University of Chester and has been a visiting lecturer at De Montfort University, Manchester Metropolitan University and York St. John University. He has developed a strong commitment to educational work through leading one-day workshops, week-long residencies, performance lectures and artist talks suitable for degree and MA level students. His live art and performance work is the starting point for workshops in devised performance that weave together research and practice, absence and presence and the amateur and the professional. Stemming from his interest in theatrical re-enactment and reliving real-life events, Michael invites participants to explore memories of performance. Participants are introduced to a devising methodology that short-circuits notions of how narrative operates and locates a place somewhere between offstage and onstage, past and present, fact and fiction.
