ARTISTIC POLICY
With roots in Conceptualism, and building on a background in painting, sculpture and art history, Farquhar’s practice incorporates an open range of media and of social and conceptual strategies. Her work mainly revolves around the stories and interactions of her everyday life, particularly in relation to the meaning and histories of objects. Reconsidering and reconfiguring works from the last 10 years, 12 Shooters is her most ambitious project to date and offers an unusually varied overview of her performance work.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Farquhar’s work addresses the fixed polarity of audience and performer in a lively and engaging way, imbuing the role of raconteur or storyteller with complex pertinence.’ Kirsten Norrie, Art Monthly (12 Shooters)

‘Building up a palimpsest of stories, quotations and drawings, Farquhar works literally from the margins, putting the writing on the walls.’ Peter Suchin, Art Monthly (Of Course She Jumped)

‘Too exuberant an individual to be lost for words, Farquhar’s solo show proved to be funny, feisty and surprisingly touching.’ Mary Brennan, Real Time Arts (Acts of Clothing)

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
12 Shooters Preceded by a live introduction, 12 Shooters is a programme of short films in which Farquhar dedicates a selection of her past live works to the cameras of other artists. (120 mins.)

Black and White and Red All Over A discussion of family and fashion in which Farquhar presents three paper-doll-style dresses, which together fit 21 people and are based on a work originally created for her mother and daughters. (Approx 60 mins.)

Acts of Clothing After a precarious, untutored dance in her famous tartan flamenco dress, Farquhar models and discusses a lifetime’s worth of past outfits, offering a complex, semi-improvised and often humorous catwalk confessional. (75–100 mins.)

WRAP-AROUND
12 Shooters The evening begins with a live introduction by the artist, including one or two short performances, followed by a screening of the 12 Shooters showreel. A 190-page book has been produced to accompany the work, featuring contributions from the artists and essays by Stuart Brisley, Peter Suchin, Tony Grisoni and others. The screening can be followed by a formal or informal discussion and/or a book signing.

Black and White and Red All Over The evening culminates with Farquhar inviting members of her audience to climb into the three large garments, which together fit 21 people. How exactly the event and the evening progress from there is open and negotiable. Farquhar is available for post-performance discussion and/or workshops.

Acts of Clothing The artist is available for discussions and/or workshops. She has also produced an instruction-based version of the work, by which other artists can perform Acts of Clothing under her guidance. The event score for this version is included in a 20-page booklet, along with a detailed history of the work.
