ARTISTIC POLICY
Lemn Sissay – poet, playwright, writer, maker of poems as landmarks, performer, broadcaster, workshop artist, artist in residence, TV presenter and wordsmith from the streets of Manchester. Funny and serious, truthful and mischievous – his work is both profoundly political and intensely personal – his poems are songs of the street

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘This is a thoroughly enjoyable and thoughtful hour.’ Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

‘It is full of rage and pain as well as humour and insight, but Sissay is keen to engage, rather than confront, the audience. And he does it with great energy and style.’ Socialist Worker

‘His poems are the songs of the street, declamatory, imaginative, hard-hitting: about mothers, supermarkets, dreams of Africa, getting picked up by police for being black... mocking the limitations of the mocker.’ Ruth Padel, Independent on Sunday

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Something Dark A journey through Lemn’s incredible life, from a harrowing beginning through the search for his family, revealing the poet we are watching onstage. Originally produced by Apples & Snakes. (90 mins with 15 min interval, 2–3 on the road.)

Why I don’t Hate White People A whirlwind tour of race as seen through the unique and intensely personal perspective of one man’s life. He is seeking a truth, trying to find if there is something he is missing in the quagmire of race relations. (60 mins, no interval. 3–4 on the road.)
