ARTISTIC POLICY
Currently based in the rural town of Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Dudendance work locally and internationally, combining live performance with film-making. Dudendance’s work defies singular interpretation existing within an ever-evolving narrative, whereby characters re-emerge in later work. Very often performance is transposed into film – shifting from the rehearsal studio onto location. The starting point remains physical, devised, often collaborations with international artists as well as groups of non-professionals.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Riveting meticulously detailed morphing… thrillingly well done.’ Mary Brennan, The Herald (Spaceman)

‘Other-worldly dreamscape which tangles itself into the brain forever.’ Jennie McGaffie, Hi-Arts (Spaceman)

‘Rous gives a tough, visceral performance that does not yield to easy explanations, but then neither does the condition of mankind.’ Scotsman (Spaceman)

CURRENT PRODUCTION
Spaceman Stark, compelling physical theatre. A lone, other-worldly survivor undergoes evolutionary mutations from prowling animal to robotic machine. Inspired by astronautical simulations and the psychological aspects of space travel. Spaceman questions what makes us human. (50 mins, no interval, 1 on stage.)

Into the Wild Involving members of the community as performers, this large-scale public art project looks at wilderness in the collective imagination. A cinematic trail will lead people through the woods to arrive at a purpose built forest cinema. (35 mins, site-specific performance and film in Battlehill Woods Huntly for September 2010, 10 performers.)

FUTURE PRODUCTIONS
Into the Wild Stage version features the original cast of seven young people who will devise material based on the site-specific performance. Inspired by storyies of feral children, ancient fairytales and the imminent threat of felling. The group have come together to express their concern at the potential loss of their wilderness. (45–50 mins, 7 young persons on stage, film and performance.)

Club Tropika Brazil-Argentina international co-production performance with film. Extreme physicality developed by manipulating the body by internal and external forces. Cast includes circus performers, singers, actors and dancers. (60 mins, 5 on stage.)

WRAP-AROUND
Residencies to create site-specific versions of Spaceman. Post-performance discussion with deviser Paul Rous exploring the science and research that inspired the project. Workshops in Dudendance’s dance theatre process for either children and young people or those with some physical background. (Minimum 3 hours, maximum 3 days.)
