ARTISTIC POLICY
Helen Paris and Leslie Hill are artists known for their edgy, humorous interrogations of contemporary culture and politics, work that has been called ‘as smart as it is seductive’. Their work as Curious embraces performance, installation, publication and film. The projects are global and domestic, sometimes large, sometimes small in scale. Intimacy and a shared sense of encounter with an audience are always an important element.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘The quiet power of Leslie Hill and Helen Paris's performance lies in its low-key directness, its quirky juxtapositions and its understanding of the geography of loneliness and the myth of return.’ The Guardian ((be)longing)

‘The ordinariness of the domestic setting is transcended and transformed into something quite extraordinary.’ The Guardian (On the Scent)

‘A visual metaphor exposing levels, tiers, hierarchies and centres of control. Paris is spot on.’ Total Theatre Magazine (Family Hold Back)

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
The moment I saw you I knew I could love you A haunting and at times humorous performance with integrated 16mm film and original sound score exploring fight, flight and freeze instincts. Set in the belly of a whale. (50 mins, 4 on stage, 5 on road.)

On the Scent A site-specific performance exploring elusive connections between smell and memory. Audiences are invited on intimate and aromatic journeys as three performers exude darkly humorous and seductive essences throughout the house. (40 mins, 3 on stage, 4 on road.)

Family Hold Back A highly visual, darkly comic and very well-mannered performance airing the perversities of politeness of the English dinner table. Codes of Englishness are exposed as weapons of mass destruction. (50 mins, 1 on stage, 3 on road.)

WRAP-AROUND
Workshops, residencies and professional development for artists and students that can range in length from one- or two-day retreats to week-long workshops and sustained residencies. Autobiology is a one-week intensive programme for artists, which focuses on the generation of ‘autobiographical’ material by exploring the connections between the body and the mind, biology and biography.
