ARTISTIC POLICY
Blind Summit Theatre are doing for ancient Japanese Bunraku puppetry what South Park did for cartoons: they subvert the medium to make cutting edge, puppet-led theatre. In a time when new media are proliferating, Blind Summit sees puppetry as a radical part of the reinvention of theatre in our time.
REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘If puppetry is ever going to be the next rock ’n’ roll these animators may well be its front men.’ Time Out
‘Mad, bad and beautiful in equal measure.’ **** The Guardian
‘If you are looking for original and adult entertainment, put this high on your list.’ The Times
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
1984 A startling new adaptation of George Orwell’s classic text that combines physical theatre, puppetry and music to create a cutting edge and thought provoking piece of theatre. (135 mins with interval, 7 on stage, 10 on the road, middle- to large-scale theatres, suitable for audiences 14+ years, some strong language.)
Low Life A gin-soaked cabaret of puppets and people inspired by poems and short stories of Charles Bukowski. Beautiful, funny and poetic. (60 mins, no interval, 4 on stage, 6 on the road, some strong language, suitable for audiences 15+ years.)
Pirate Puppetry A unique piece of ‘invisible puppetry theatre’: puppets descend on an unsuspecting audience in a public space and create mayhem while their puppeteers try to control them. (15–20 mins, no interval, 4 on stage, 6 on the road, suitable for all ages.)
FUTURE PRODUCTIONS
Call of the Wild An adaptation of Jack London’s classic tale of adventure and self-discovery using life-sized puppets, ballet and shadows to recreate the Arctic Tundra onstage. (8 on stage, 11 on the road, middle to large-scale theatre, suitable for all ages.)
