ARTISTIC POLICY
Led by Matt Adams, Ju Row Farr and Nick Tandavanitj, Blast Theory has a team of six and is based in Brighton. The group's work explores interactivity and the relationship between real and virtual space with a particular focus on the social and political aspects of technology. Blast Theory uses video, computers, performance, installation, mobile and online technologies to ask questions about the ideologies present in the information that envelops us.

REVIEW EXTRACTS

‘Rider Spoke is such a gloriously enlivening piece of theatre.’ Lucy Powell, Metro

‘As a company, Blast Theory seems finally to offer Britain a theatre group that delves into our popular culture to create deeply challenging work.’ Stephen Armstrong, Sunday Times (Desert Rain)

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Ulrike and Eamon Compliant A site-specific work based on the lives of Ulrike Meinhof (Red Army Faction) and Eamon Collins (Irish Republican Army). A commission by the De La Warr Pavilion for the 53rd Venice Biennale, the work invites the audience to take on the character of either Ulrike or Eamon and journey through the city using a mobile phone to receive and make phone calls as the character they have chosen. (30 mins, audience capacity 12 per hour, maximum of 72 per day, 10 on the road)

Rider Spoke An interactive work for cyclists where theatre combines with game play and state of the art technology. Rider Spoke invites the audience to cycle through the streets of the city, equipped with a small handheld computer. (75 mins, no interval, audience capacity 28 per hour, 5 on the road, working with 2 or 3 local performers/artists.)

Day of the Figurines (DOTF) An installation designed for galleries and public spaces, DOTF is a board game and SMS text narrative, set in a fictional town where players establish codes of behaviour and morality within a parallel world. (2 on the road working with 4 or 5 local performers/artists, total game duration 24 days, audience capacity up to 1,000 players.)

Can You See Me Now? A game that happens simultaneously online and on the streets. Players from anywhere in the world can play online in a virtual city against members of Blast Theory. (5 on the road working with 4 or 5 local performers, each game lasts from 10–60 mins, audience capacity variable.)

Desert Rain A game, an installation and a performance placing participants in a collaborative virtual environment and sending them on a mission into a virtual world. Originally premiered in 1999, the company is re-staging the work for touring from February 2010. (7 on the road, 30 mins, audience capacity 6 people every 30 mins, maximum of 120 per day.)
