Dr. Syed Saad Andaleeb, professor of marketing, has been named a candidate on the Fulbright Senior Specialists Roster. As a candidate, he is eligible to be matched with incoming program requests for Fulbright Senior Specialists from overseas academic institutions. The Council for International Exchange of Scholars manages the Fulbright Senior Specialists Roster and awards grants for international scholarly exchanges. Andaleeb is eligible to remain on the roster for up to five years.
Dr. Michael Campbell, associate professor of biology, presented "Gene Expression Profile of Plants Exposed to Levels of Copper, Lead, Nickel, and Zinc" at the International Association for Great Lakes Research, held June 1-6 in Winnipeg, Canada.
Dr. Chris Coulston and Dr. Randall Fisher, assistant professors of electrical and computer engineering, were awarded a $1,500 FELT grant from the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching for their proposal, "Incorporating Hands-on Design Experiences in Computer Engineering First Year Seminar."
George Dudas, instructor of computer science, attended the Web 2002 Conference at University Park May 14-15.
Dr. Anthony Foyle, assistant professor of geology, participated in a National Science Foundation Workshop for Early Career Faculty in the Geosciences titled "Teaching, Research, and Managing Your Care," held June 1-7 in Williamsburg, Virginia.
J. Andrew George, lecturer in mathematics, attended a Chautauqua Short Course in Austin, Texas, May 22-25.
Tracy Halmi and Luciana Aronne, lecturers in chemistry, received a grant for $2,177 from the Fund for Excellence in Learning and Teaching for their proposal, "FT-IR Spectroscopy Incorporated into CHEM 002."
Kay Johnson, lecturer in finance, has completed a new online study guide for the third edition of Financial Management, a college textbook by Gallagher and Andrews. The book and study guide, both published by Prentice-Hall, will be released later this summer. The guide contains 650 questions with helpful hints and explanations.
Johnson has also completed a new book, The Mathematics of Bonds, which will be published by Meridian Creative Group. She is currently writing the next book in the series, The Mathematics of Mutual Funds.
Dr. Donald McKinstry, associate professor of biology, presented "Boomslang Bites: A Lesson in Hemostas" at the Human Anatomy and Physiology Conference, held May 25-27 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Dr. Ido Millet, associate professor of MIS, presented "Data Warehouse Design for Ease of Data Transformation," at the Fourth International Workshop on Design and Management of Data Warehouses, held May 27 in Toronto, Canada. The paper was co-authored by Millet, Dr. Diane Parente, assistant professor of management, and Dr. John Fizel, professor of economics.
Dr. Boon Ong, lecturer in mathematics, Dr. Richard Stankewitz, assistant professor of mathematics, and Carla Torgerson, instructional designer, received a grant of $2,500 from the Fund for Excellence in Learning and Teaching for their proposal, "Algebra Skills Enhancement for Calculus Students."
Anna Pilston, assistant librarian, and Dr. Rick Hart, director of the Library, have had their paper, "Student Response to a New Electronic Reserves System," published in the Journal of Academic Librarianship.
Dr. Clare Porac, professor of psychology, attended the meetings of the Canadian Psychological Association in Vancouver, British Columbia, May 30-June 1. While there she presented a paper titled "Consistent and Inconsistent Left-handers, Right-shift History, and Lateral Preference Profiles." The paper was co-authored by Dr. Alan Searleman, professor of psychology at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.
Dr. Kim Skarupski, CORE's director of research, and Cam Bullock, CORE project director, gave an invited presentation on the Long Distance Dads evaluation project at the National Fatherhood Initiative's Fifth National Summit on Fatherhood, held June 11 in San Antonio, Texas. Their presentation was part of a session titled "Cutting-edge Research in Fatherhood."
Gary Walker, lecturer in computer science, participated in "Intro to Computer and Network Security" at a National Science Foundation Chautauqua Program held May 12-15 in Dayton, Ohio.
