Alex Kirlik joined the University of Illinois and the Beckman Institute in 2002. He is currently Acting Head of the Human Factors Division and Professor of Human Factors, Psychology, Mechanical Science and Engineering, Industrial & Enterprise Systems Engineering, and member of the Human Perception and Performance group at the Beckman Institute. Dr. Kirlik has held visiting positions in engineering or psychology at Stanford University, Yale University, the University of Connecticut, Haskins Laboratories, and NASA Ames Research Center. Previously he was Assistant and then Associate Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Psychology, Computing and Cognitive Science at Georgia Tech from 1990-2000, where he also served as Coordinator of GT Cognitive Science Academic Programs for two years. Dr. Kirlik also is also founding Series Editor of Oxford University Press' book series: Human-Technology Interaction, Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions of Automation Science & Engineering, member of the Editorial Board of the journal Human Factors and Senior Member of IEEE. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial & Systems Engineering (Human-Machine Systems) from the Ohio State University in 1989.

Honors: George Briggs Award, American Psychological Association (APA), Division of Applied-Experimental and Engineering Psychology; NASA-ASEE Stanford Summer Faculty Fellowship.
