P. Scott Carney received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Rochester in 1999. He is an associate professor in the U of I department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a full-time member in the Beckman Institute's Bioimaging Science and Technology group. His fields of professional interest are in optical physics including imaging, near-field microscopy, classical and quantum coherence theory, beam propagation, fundamental issues of energy conservation, and mathematical methods in inverse scattering and the propagation of light.

Honors: Fulbright Scholar (The Netherlands) 2008-2009; Honorary Member, HKN, Spring 2006; Accenture Outstanding Advisor Award 2003-04 and 2007-08; NSF CAREER Award 2002; A.O. Beckman Research Award (awarded by the Research Board); Rochester Theory Center Predoctoral Fellowship, September 1997; AAPT Prize for Excellence in teaching of undergraduate physics; and GAAN (Department of Education) Graduate Fellowship, September 1994.
