I took a course through dual enrollment while I was in high school. What do I do now?
Contact the college or junior college from which you took the course and ask that they send a copy of your transcript to the University of Alabama. The transcript should be mailed to Academic Records, The University of Alabama, Box 870134, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35487-0134.
I’m thinking about taking a course this summer at a college near my home, what do I do?
Discuss your plans with your advisor. If you plan to attend an Alabama junior college, go to the Records Office, 206 Student Services Center for a letter of good standing. If you plan to go to another institution, come to the transfer credit office in 200 Clark Hall to make sure the course is equivalent to one at the University and get a letter of good standing.
How does the College decide if a course from another institution will transfer equivalently into the College of Arts and Sciences?
Courses taken at an Alabama state-supported junior or senior institution and used to satisfy general studies requirements must appear on the list of approved courses published by the State-wide Articulation and General Studies Committee. Other courses taken at state junior colleges may transfer if your former college and the University have agreed upon the equivalent course here.If you took courses somewhere other than a state junior college, the Student Services Center evaluates your courses. We look at the course level, content, and the relationship of the course to other courses in the curriculum to determine equivalencies. There are courses that cannot be accepted. These include professional or technical courses, remedial courses, or courses in areas in which The University of Alabama offers no instruction. Also, the institution at which you took courses must be accredited.
What is the residency requirement in the College of Arts and Sciences?
You are expected to earn 30 semester hours, including nine of the last 18 hours, while enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. You are also expected to earn at least 12 hours in 300 and 400-level courses completed on this campus in your major and six such hours in your minor.
How many hours may I transfer from a junior college?
Students may transfer half of the hours required for degree from a junior college. Once you have earned 60 hours from all sources (transfer work from junior and senior colleges, plus hours earned at UA), you may transfer only 12 hours from a junior college, so long as this transfer does not exceed the 60 hour junior college maximum. Students must meet college, major, and minor residency requirements.
