Providing the Elements for Achievement
The College of Arts and Sciences Leadership Board consists of alumni and friends of the College who wish to advance The University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences – Alabama’s largest and best liberal arts college – by advocating for the College facutly, staff and students; partnering with the College in advancing the cultural and economic vitality of the state, and supporting College initiatives and opportunities with their influence, advice, friendship, and resources.
The Leadership Board also serves as an advisory board to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences on matters related to the growth and development of the College’s private endowment which now totals $30 million. Leadership Board members also serve as representatives of the College in the recruitment of students; assist students with professional internship and work experiences; lend their energy and influence to the advancement of teaching and research; and work to develop working relationships between board members and faculty and to enrich student experiences.
The board supports approximately $45,000 annually in student scholarships through Board dues gifts to the Collegiate Fund and $30,000 in faculty support through the Leadership Board Faculty Fellowships and the annual faculty Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award. It also advises the Dean on expenditures from the Collegiate Fund. In this capacity, it enables the fund raising efforts of the College that, in 2008-2009 increased the College’s endowment by $6.8 million.

Membership is by invitation following a vote to accept by the board. Dues are a minimum of $1,000 annually and become part of the Collegiate Fund.
