Welcome, News and and Events

The Department of Geography at the University of Alabama was established in 1903. The department includes 14 tenured or tenure-track faculty, two full-time instructors, three professional staff members, three full-time researchers, two adjunct instructors, and two administrative assistants. Our teaching and research interests span the discipline and the globe. The department fosters an exciting and synergistic environment where opportunities for discovery abound.

We offer BA and BS degrees in Geography with multiple concentrations in addition to minors in Geography and GIS, and certificates in GIS and Urban and Regional Planning. We also coordinate the College’s interdisciplinary BS degree in Environmental Science. At the graduate level, we offer a program leading to a MS degree in Geography. The department typically enrolls ca. 180 Geography and Environmental Science majors and generally has ca. 35 graduate students in residence.
