Bachelor of Arts Program

The Bachelor of Arts program in American Studies is designed to enable students to study the diversity of American experiences, incorporating race, gender, class, and ethnicity as categories for for cultural analysis. Students study different aspects of American society and culture: history, film and the arts, literature, social institutions, education, philosophy, and the general American landscape.

General Degree Requirements:

Major: 30 hours, including AMS 150, 151, 203 or 204 or 205, 231, 485, 486, 491 or 492, and 9 AMS elective hours, 3 of which must be at the 300/400 level. In addition, majors must complete 6 hours of general American history (HY) and 6 hours of general American literature (EN).

Minor: Requirements for a minor: 21 hours, including AMS 150, 151, 203 or 204 or 205, 231, 485 or 486, and 6 AMS elective hours, 3 of which must be at the 300/400 level. In addition, minors must complete 3 hours of general American history (HY) and 3 hours of general American literature (EN).
