Academics
The shift from insular modes of action to the global has demanded broad changes in the study and teaching of design, history and planning. Among schools of architecture, UVa’s School of Architecture stands as a leader in this paradigm shift. Indeed, the School has become a model for 21st-century engaged public universities, with a curriculum that emphasizes interdisciplinary, collaborative “action” research on such issues as global and human health, community engagement, infrastructure and cultural preservation. For decades we have been known nationally and internationally for our strengths in sustainability and balancing issues of ecology, economy and social equity. We are a leader at UVa in offering global programs that give our faculty and students the necessary skills and fluency to envision and create preferred futures around the world. And we encourage collaborations across Grounds, as well as with communities of alumni, firms, industry and public partners that advance innovative research and develop real solutions.
