When Lissette Acosta-Corniel and her mother were struggling to make a new life in the United States, she made a promise to her 10-year-old sister who remained behind in the Dominican Republic, vowing to finish college and finish well. She kept that promise, graduating May 18 with a doctorate from the University at Albany.

UAlbany students and staff have put together a 'Cinderella Project' event for area high schoolers. The event provides underprivileged young women with free dresses and accessories for their prom or graduation night. The goal is to encourage the young women to pursue their dreams and give back to their communities.
