File the correct forms required to establish, change, or inactivate Academic Departments, Majors, Subject Areas, and Interdisciplinary Minors.
To create or change academic departments, degrees, or majors, send the appropriate form and supporting documentation to the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. When the signed form is received by the Office of the Registrar, the change is made to the Student Administration system using the correct Effective Date.

Subject area - (an entity under which courses are offered) For example: Although Asian American Studies Institute, and many other areas do not have a separate "academic department," they are all known as subject areas.Some academic departments have two or more subject areas. Example: Modern and Classical. Languages offers courses under FREN, GERM, ITAL, etc.
A subject area does not have to be connected to a major in that area. Example: JAPN, is a subject area, but no major in Japanese is offered.
