The Illini Union Art Gallery continues the Illini Union's mission to enrich the lives of students and the campus community through the freedom of expression and the value of each individual.
ken butler's hybrid visions
Ken Butler is an artist and musician whose Hybrid musical instruments, performances, installations, and other works explore the interaction and transformation of common and uncommon objects, altered images, sounds and silence.
Ken Butler's Hybrid Visions features an exhibition of his hybrid musical instrument sculptures, which are created primarily from urban detritus to express a poetic spirit of re-invention and hyper-utility as hidden meanings and associations that momentarily create a striking and re-animated cultural identity for common objects. This show is presented as part of Sonified Sustainability Festival - a celebration of ecological music and arts, curated by Jason Finkelman with support by the Student Sustainability Committee, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and Krannert Art Museum.
SMART ABOUT ART
By serving as a platform to showcase artistry of all different forms, the Illini Union Art Gallery provides an outlet not only for the campus community to further their knowledge, but for the Champaign-Urbana community as well. The Illini Union Board curates and is responsible for the overall management of the exhibits, usually shown monthly. The Illini Union Art Gallery endeavors to explore the constantly evolving world of art and present it to those familiar and introduce newcomers.
