About This Site

This generation of the UA Home Page was established in December 2006, and was developed by the Office of Web Communications, a division of University Advancement. Content for the site is jointly developed within the Offices of Web Communications, Public Relations, and Marketing & Communications. All photography is a product of the Office of Photography, and is protected by copyright. The UA web server is managed by the Office of Information Technology. The site will continually evolve based on industry best practices and the needs and priorities of The University of Alabama.

Web Standards

The UA home page was built using accepted Web standards in order to create a robust, widely accessible information tool for all visitors. The site utilizes accepted Web standards outlined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), including tableless XHTML 1.0 Transitional and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) 2.0, which enhances accessibility by separating structure from presentation. Web Accessibility

The University of Alabama addresses Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act by utilizing Usablenet Assistive, which generates text-only versions of all pages on the UA home page. Usablenet Assistive generates instantaneous text-only versions of web sites, ensuring that the University's information and services are accessible for everyone despite physical, sensory, or cognitive user disabilities, work constraints or technological barriers or users. When used in tandem with audible text-to-voice software, this text-only version makes using our sites much easier and rewarding for vision-impaired users. UA Web Policy

The UA home page and all official and unofficial UA web sites are governed by and subject to the World Wide Web Policy of The University of Alabama.

UA Web Guide

The Office of Web Communications manages the UA Web Guide, which is a standard-setter for UA web sites campus-wide. The Web Guide outlines the roles and responsibilities of UA web sites and web developers, addresses design standards for official and unofficial UA web sites, discusses accessibility and commercial activity, and provides templates, images, and resources for use in developing UA web sites.
