The Day of New London ran an editorial today pointing out the unfairness and illogical nature of the NCAA’s move to bar the UConn men’s basketball team from playing in next year’s post-season because of the team’s poor ’09 – ’10 academic record. (Almost none of the current team was playing then).
It appears that UConn has no problem with having to live up to high academic standards; it does have a problem with new penalties being conjured up – the no-post-season-play thing was only introduced in October of ’11 – and then applied retroactively to a two-year-old academic record. The current men’s academics are apparently on track to be where they need to be.
