Basic Definitions
Below are some basic definitions with links to additional information. As you will see the functions of many of these technologies overlap.
| Blogs | blog (Web log) - a log or journal maintained by a person or group of individuals with entries written by a single person and listed in chronological order, often with a comments feature to facilitate discussion. | Newsfeeds | newsfeed - a Web file which allows sites to send updated information, announcements and news stories to other Web services. See http://blogger.psu.edu/help/basics/rss for information on how to access RSS news feeds |
| Podcast | podcast - a newsfeed which links to an audio or video file. Files can include interviews, foreign language samples, music clips, lecture notes, or recordings of other appropriate content (e.g. bird calls, machines, medical equipment) Penn State has two services for podcasting: Blog audio can be created via the Digital Commons studios. |
