The Technology Commercialization (TC) certificate program is designed for undergraduate engineering and science students. Understanding the commercialization of technology is becoming increasingly critical for engineers and technologists. With an emphasis on creativity and innovation, this certificate program is designed to provide students the knowledge base needed to explore the various options for commercializing technology. The goal of the program is to help produce the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders.The courses are designed to allow students to gain a general understanding of the technology commercialization landscape, then to apply that knowledge in a practical manner to an innovation.
Students who wish to obtain a certificate in Technology Commercialization must:
- Complete the required course, TE/ENG 360: Lectures in Engineering Entrepreneurship (1 hour)
- Complete at least four credit hours of elective courses/activities from the following list:
- TE 298: High Tech Ventures: From Idea to Enterprise (2 hours)
- GE 400: Engineering Law (3 hours)*
- TE/ENG 398: Legal Issues in Engineering Entrepreneurship (3 hours)
- TE/ENG 461: Technology Entrepreneurship (3 hours)
- TE/ENG 466: High Tech Venture Marketing (2 hours)
- Placement in the semi-finalist teams in the Cozad New Venture Competition (equivalent to 2 hours course credit)
- Attendance of the Silicon Valley Entrepreneurship Workshop & submission of 1-page essay about your experience submitted to Brooke Newell (equivalent to 2 hours course credit)
- Maintain a 3.0 average or better in each of the courses that make up the certificate program in order for them to qualify for the certificate.
- Processing fee: $50. Payment can be made online with a credit card or a check/money order can be mailed. These options are available to choose from in the online application.
*If completed prior to August 2014, students may count GE 400 towards this certificate. If taken after, GE 400 will not count towards this certificate.
