Adult Secondary Education (ASE)

These classes help to develop the skills required to pass the General Educational Development tests. Adults who have not finished high school may take advantage of this program.

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

It is never too late to learn the basics. South Suburban College's Adult Basic Education program helps men and women whose skill levels are below the eighth grade level.

Note: A student enrolling for the first time at a South Suburban College adult education center must have both documents listed below with them when registering:

  • Current state I.D. or driver's license indictating Illinois Residence
  • Under age 18, must supply a High School Withdrawal Letter from high school where student currently resides
  • Proof of Social Security Number
  • Indiana Residents cannot participate in this program

Illinois residents are also required to satisfactorily pass an examination on American patriotism and the principles of representative government as found in the American Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America, and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, as well as on the proper use and display of the American Flag. A Constitution Study Guide is available online from SSC as well as Southwestern Illinois College.

The South Suburban College Adult Education program is an equal opportunity educator and employer. Priority registration is given to continuing students who are making progress in their studies. Waiting lists will be taken as classes hsave a maximum number of students who can be served.

Indiana residents can not participate in this program.
