Electronics Engineering Technology Program

Please Note: The Electronics Engineering Technology program is currently being revised. The new program, Applied Engineering Technology (AET) is being developed and is pending State approval for Fall 2009.

Introduction

Through a systems approach and seven in-depth courses, students will study applied technology in the areas of:

  • Alternative Energy (Green) & Power Distribution
  • Audio/Video Systems
  • Communications (broadcast, satellite, wireless)
  • Computers & Networks
  • Design
  • Development & Manufacturing
  • Industry
  • Robotics & Automation
  • Security, Cabling & Telephony
  • Smart Home Control
  • Technical Project Management

In addition, students will gain skills in:

  • CAD
  • electricity & electronics
  • instrumentation & test equipment
  • project management
  • problem solving
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)
  • team work
  • terminology
  • tool usage

What is the employment outlook?

South Suburban College's Applied Engineering Technology students develop essential skills for employment as technicians and technologists with industries involving telecommunications, computers, industrial electronics and robotics, audio systems, automation, electrical power broadcasting, aviation and consumer electronics servicing. Employment opportunities are excellent, with starting salaries ranging from $16,000 to $24,000 according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook.
