Faculty/Staff

School of Social Work faculty members are productively involved in research and personally interested in students’ achievements.

Faculty members are active in both quantitative and qualitative research, and students learn research skills through the discussion of faculty members’ own research. Examples of such projects include evaluating practice models for serving severely mentally ill clients, learning about the needs of rural caregivers of older victims of dementia, and organizing parents and grandparents from families affected by HIV and AIDS.

Faculty members are committed not only to the education of all students, but also to the mentoring process. Such mentoring includes helping students prepare for careers involving research, teaching, scholarship, and leadership. Faculty members often encourage students to begin working on presentations at conferences as well as submitting manuscripts for publication. It is not uncommon for faculty members to collaborate with doctoral students on papers and presentations.

We encourage our faculty and students to pursue diverse areas of research. The faculty’s expertise ranges from children’s services to advocacy for the aging, and from mental-health services to poverty policy.
