2011-2012 USB Trade-In Events: Making A Difference!
USB Trade In Thank you, Gators! To help faculty and staff comply with UF's Mobile Computing and Storage Devices policy and standard, the Information Security and Compliance team sponsored several USB trade-in events in 2011 and early 2012. The goal of these events is to get encrypted flash drives distributed and remove unencrypted flash drives from our campus. To date over 1,700 faculty and staff have traded in their old flash drives for a new encrypted drive. Check the security.ufl.edu homepage for announcements of upcoming trade-in events.
New and Updated Computing Policies for UF
In August the University of Florida announced that an updated Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for university IT resources is now in effect. Both the full AUP and a quick-reference summary of the policy are available at http://www.it.ufl.edu/policies.
Free Safe and Secure e-Media Disposal Now Available
A new e-media disposal service is now available to all faculty and staff. This safe, secure service ensures your old USB drives, CD-ROMs, and other media is destroyed and transported in a way that protects your privacy. Read more on the e-Media secure disposal service page.
Never Give Out Your Password
Don't be fooled. E-mail from UF will never ask you for your password. Predators often attempt to lure people to reply to an e-mail or click a link to a fraudulent website to obtain personal information like passwords.
Always Update Your Computer
Don't wait to update.Updates to software and plugins provide new features along with improved security and reliability. These fixes to bugs and loopholes prevent attackers from installing malicious programs while you surf the web.

Get Malware Protection
UF offers McAfee virus protection software free to all faculty, staff and students. Additional malware protection is available free for personal use by some vendors. Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, Virus Total, and others.
