Global learning resources

Our flagship global learning resources have been developed or co-developed within British Council programes, working with schools and teachers who exemplify best practice. At the end of this section we list a selection of effective global learning resources from other orgainsations. 

Warm up for the Games
Throughout 2010-11 the BBC and the British Council warm up for the games worked together to link 50 schools in the UK with the schools that educated the 23 athletes in the BBC’s World Olympic Dreams programme. Ranging from stars such as Usain Bolt and Shawn Johnson to young hopefuls in judo, hockey and distance running, the project has already generated hundreds of exciting exchanges of information.  

Big Dance 2012
The next Big Dance will take place across the UK from BigDance May - July 2012 .  The School Pledge mass participation event for schools across the UK and around the world will take place on 18 May 2012 - the day that the Olympic torch arrives in the UK.  Big Dance is about showing lots of different types of Dance in unusual places - read on!

Dickens 2012
The Dickens 2012 project, launched to coincide with Dickens 2012 the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth, aims to use his writing not simply to get a picture of life as it was in his day, but also to understand how we might more vividly describe our own lives and surroundings, and then to share these descriptions with others from different backgrounds around the world.

Chatterbooks
Chatterbooks is a joint initiative between the British Chatterbooks Council and The Reading Agency. It expands the UK Chatterbooks programme internationally and enables Connecting Classrooms school partnerships to build knowledge and understanding of each other’s societies through shared reading experiences. The focus is on reading for pleasure to enable the intercultural exchange of ideas.

100 Words
The aim is to capture the essence of another country's 100 words culture in 100 words of their language, as a play, film or poem. This project toolkit was developed following a pilot project involving young people from partner schools in Algeria, Bangladesh and the UK participating in British Council Connecting Classrooms programme. (All ages)

Global-eyes 
Global-eyes is an innovative resource that introduces Global Eyes (British Council) the topic of Globalisation. It demonstrates how this phenomenon is changing our world and highlights the exciting implications it has for your students. The British Council worked with the Department for Education to showcase emerging world economies Brazil, India and China to school leavers in England and created this resource with some of these young people. (11-16)

Climate 4 Classrooms 
British Council launched the first global, multilingual Climate 4 Classrooms (British Council) website supporting the teaching and learning of climate change (currently being used in UK, Mexico, Bangladesh and China), working with the Royal Meteorological Society and the Royal Geographical Society. (11-18) 

One Voice for All
One Voice for All is a set of teaching resources Click here to go to One Voice for All resources designed to help teachers discuss and explore issues around human rights - particularly the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child - in their classrooms.

International Voices
International Voices develop partnerships between Click here to go to internationnal voices resources pages schools in the UK and around the world, with music and singing at the heart of the project.

The Schools World Service (SWS) publishes video footage each month that’s designed to engage your students in international news and boost their understanding of the wider world.
